Lake Marmisho

 Lake Marmisho is one of the most pristine natural attractions of West Azerbaijan, which with its beautiful scenery is a suitable place for rest and relaxation and fascinates every traveler. The remarkable thing about this beautiful lake is its origin; As a result of the earthquake, part of the mountain fell and created a natural dam that caused the current lake. Also, since the previous inhabitants of Marmisho were Christians around 1200 AD, the lake takes its name from the leader of these Christians, Benjamin Marshimon.


Geographical location

The beautiful Marmisho Lake is one of the sights of Urmia and is located 45 km west of Urmia in a valley near the border between Iran and Turkey. This lake is home to many valuable animals and plant species.

Wherever you live in Iran, you must first reach Urmia and take the lake route from Modares Square in this city. After about forty-five kilometers to the west and passing through the beautiful villages of Pasan, Bani and Helani, you will reach the beautiful village of Marmishu. The road is located in a beautiful valley which has a special mountain view.

In Marmishu village, you can reach Marmishu lake by finding the shrine of Pir Khorasani and continuing the rocky but beautiful path. A 5-hectare lake with a depth of 50 to 60 meters, whose native trout are famous among the people of the region. The source of water of this river is Nazlochai, which originates from Baybon and Setareh Lund mountains and finally reaches a very green and spectacular gorge.

Lake Marmishu leads from the south to the peaks of Sitao, Qaiduk, and Chal, from the north to the mountains of Baidoust, from the west to the ruined village of Dori, and from the east to the villages of Bani and Pasan.

Vegetation of Lake Marmisho

Along the river to the lake, in addition to a variety of forest trees, willow trees surround the lake as a natural protection. In addition to willow and walnut trees around the villages and the region, oak, pistachio, jujube, pear, hawthorn, almond, turmeric, spruce, other shrubs and various species of shrubs provide a good place to grow bees and attract beekeepers. Other herbaceous plant species include sagebrush, nettle, iris, tulip, licorice, poppy, onion, yarrow, chicory, thyme, artichoke, etc.



Marmish animals

Marmisho animal life is divided into two periods; Currently, animals around the lake are habitats such as bears, foxes, wolves and rabbits. Previously, antelopes, boars and leopards were among the animals of the region. Birds include partridges, hawks, quails, and more. Salmon, whitefish and otters are among the many aquatic species in the lake, which are facing a serious decline due to tourist traffic and overfishing. In addition, there is no trace of otters. With all these features, the lake environment is quite calm and suitable for fishing; Therefore, you can add fishing gear to the list of accessories needed for your trip.

Attractions around the lake

One of the most interesting sights you will see on this trip is the tents of the tribes and nomads that have migrated to this area. It is very interesting to get acquainted with the way of life of the nomads, which can be memorable along with visiting the lake and seeing the surrounding scenery.

If you are a little lucky, you may eat beekeepers in the area on the way, and this is an opportunity to give the real taste of natural honey to your table. The lake is surrounded by dense trees that glow like green rings that turn green throughout the spring and summer and solidly colored in the fall, creating a scene you can rarely see anywhere else.

Summer is the best time to visit Lake Marmisho. Due to the mountainous nature of the region and the weather conditions, it is better to avoid traveling to this region in winter.
